How to confirm payment on eBay?

Fake Ebay and Paypal emails from Nigeria! HELP?

  • Put an item up on eBay and state it to be a uk only sale. The next day it was sold as a buy it now, and I recieved an email from paypal saying payment recieved. When I looked deeper I saw now money was in my paypal account and rang up paypal to confirm, this obviously was a fake paypal email. The next day I recieved another email now from eBay saying that unless I ship the item asap they will cancel my account. When I looked into this email, this too was a fake eBay confirmed. The buyer requested it to be sent to Nigeria and states he's paid for the item! What stance should I take, email back and confront them or just be careful and delete all suspicious looking emails? Also I forget what information will they have on me, they will have my email, name, city from eBay but do eBay also send the sellers address to the buyer??? There eBay account has also been deleted by eBay too. Help

They are scams, Matt. You do not take any action, you ignore them.

Hi! This happened to me once when I sold my PSP. His account got deactivted on ebay, and he sent me fake emails. I ignored him completely and just reported him to Paypal and Ebay, and I got my seller fees back. Just do this, and you will be fine :) Also remember: The Paypal address ALWAYS starts with https:// the "S" means secure. Anyhting else is fake so do NOT enter your details :)

I too receive these periodically and they are usually "phishing" emails trying to get your user id and password. I open them, and immediately forward them to "[email protected] and [email protected]. Then I immediately delete the email. Never give out your id or password to anybody.

The Zimster

as Zimster stated - report these as spoofs. Do not send anything. If you stated UK only, then it`s obvious this 'buyer' is a fake.

Its a scam, report it to Ebay and Paypal ASAP and do not send anything. Ebay knows all about these scams, they get reported hundreds if not thousands of times a day. Almost everyone selling electronic equipment, jewellery or other high value items on Ebay gets the same scams. Do not email him back, cut off all communication and block him from contacing you. They will now send threatening emails pretending to be from Paypal, the police or even FBI saying you need to refund the money. Don't believe any of it, it's all part of the scam. If this person really sent money, they have to file a dispute with Paypal, not you. Ebay is not going to cancel your account, neither will Paypal, these are all spoof emails not from Ebay or Paypal. Just ignore this person and they will eventually go away, they try to frighten you into sending the item or sending the money back, but they have no rights. If they don't stop, tell them you've reported this to both Ebay and Paypal and he has to file a dispute with them, not with you
