Answer:
Millions of junk emails go out daily just like the one you received. No matter how convincing it might sound, it isn't true. They either want your bank details to steal money, or they will ask for a 'processing fee' before paying winnings (obviously the winnings never arrive!). The biggest clue there is they want you to reply to a free email address (Hotmail)! No genuine lottery company would use a free email address.

No, it is Not True. You did not win a lottery. Official Yahoo does Not run a Lottery, nor do the overseas Lottery e-mails. The e-mails are Scam/Fraudulant email sent to You to steal Your valuable information such as credit card and social security numbers, user IDs and passwords. The emails are designed to look like a real company, which in Reality is Not. By all means, Never give this information out online to such e-mails in the future. Delete them and ignore the e-mails. Best of luck to you.

Well, Jack, did you enter that lottery, you know buy a ticket????? No??? You can not win something you did not enter or play. Besides Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail, Microsoft, MSN and Aol do not have lotteries, reward programs, promotions, or contests. When an E-mail offer sounds too good to be true, then it is definitely not true. It is a scam to get your personal information and/or money. Do not respond to it. Report it, forward it to the FTC at [email protected] and to the abuse desk of the sender's ISP. For yahoo, report them here: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/ya... Choose Fraud as the reason for the violation you're reporting on. Also, if the E-mail appears to be impersonating a bank or other company or organization, forward the message to the actual organization. If you gave them your personal information, you may have handed them the info they need to steal your identity. You will need to watch carefully for a long time, any accounts, bank, credit card, etc., for any purchases, added accounts, or changes to your accounts. If they have your credit card information, call that company and cancel the card, getting a new one reissued with a different number. Also bank information, if they have that info. Call the bank and have them close your account, and open another with a different account number. Get your credit reports and watch them carefully. I think you should also make out a police report about it. And for your E-mail safety, remember: Do not ever open E-mail from people you do not know; and unless you are absolutely sure who it is from then treat them as spam. Opening spam alerts the sender that your address is a valid one and they send you loads and loads more of it to you. Never, ever give out your personal information to anyone, for any reason, whether by E-mail, snail mail, phone call, or at your front door. And do not ever send money, checks or money orders to; or cash checks, money orders for any one - ever.

Yahoo does not have a lottery. Neither does Gmail, Google, Hotmail, Microsoft or any other large commercial brand. Therefore, this mail, and any other similar mails, are a fraud. To win in a lottery - you should have bought a ticket. Then, Yahoo does not have an Amsterdam office anymore, nor would they refer to it as Holland, but rather "The Netherlands". And, if you really would have won - why do they ask all these PERSONAL questions? Why would it matter what your religion, marital status, or country of origin is? This is a sign they want to steal your identity, so they can buy things or get money using your name, leaving you with the problems. Delete these emails, and never, ever reply to them.
