My email is sending my contacts spam mail. What do I do to stop the emails?

Mine did this too on Saturday morning from my yahoo email, the email advertising Viagra went to all of my yahoo contacts and my sent items were deleted. To me it seems more like the account was hacked rather than someone was just using the email address, as I don't see why else my sent items would have been deleted or why it would have only been sent to my contacts. I have now changed my password and hope this is enough to prevent it happening again for a while!

That e-mail address has been 'harvested' by spammers, and is now being spoofed by robot computers to continue to send spam, supposedly in your name. If you haven't already done so, close the account, but it may not stop the spam. Notify ALL your contacts not to open these mails -ever! (Some spam can infect computers merely by opening them,without any clicks on links.) If you haven't accessed the account in months, and it is a Hotmail or Yahoo account, it is now frozen, but spammers could still use their spoofing programs to send mail in that name.

*sigh* I wish more people knew how email works. Why do you assume your account is doing this? Anyone who knows what to do can send an email that appears to come from any address they like. Someone has simply got hold of your contact list and is now spamming them pretending to be you.
