How can I report a yahoo spammer to yahoo, when the spam is not sent to a yahoo email account?
-
There is a spammer that is sending email from [email protected] to my non-yahoo email account. I have forwarded the spam emails to [email protected], yet the email persist. I tried to look on the yahoo page about reporting spam, but those answers only apply to yahoo email recipients. There does not seem to be a mechanism in place to report to yahoo that one of it's own email users is sending out spam to non-yahoo email addresses.

Answer:
It is very easy for spammers to 'spoof' or fake an e-mail address for their own use - chances are it isn't a valid yahoo address at all. Spammers also hide behind proxy servers to hide the origin of the spam, or use zombie 'bot net' infected computers to send their mail. Even if you use 'expanded headers' when reporting to Yahoo, these only give the location of the Internet Provider, not the actual address, so it would still be difficult for Yahoo to trace. I ignore all these and just delete them without opening - too many dangers of computer infections from opening. Spammers get notified each time a spam is opened, telling them that account is valid, so you get more spam. They sell these addresses to other spammers too! The address for reporting spam applies to spamming addresses (Yahoo ones) so you did report to the correct place. (Ribbit)
