Does the "Not Spam" button really do anything?

Why is the spam button not working?

  • Hello. I've been using yahoo for several years now, but lately i've noticed that the spam button is not working for my email. I'll receive an email from some company, let's say Viacom Insider, and I'll mark it as spam, thinking that I'll stop receiving emails from this group, but every day I'll sign in and have a new email, check it, and find that I again have another email from this group. I've tried searching the site for what I can do to stop receiving emails like this, but I couldn't find anything. What can I do to stop receiving emails like this?

  • Answer:

Each user is ultimately "responsible" for the amount of spam they get, just by the way they use their account. Your Spam guard is probably working as it should----BUT---YOU have to co-operate with it in order for it to be effective. First-----QUIT----- opening ANY spam (or "unknown" senders) emails ----AND DO not EVER look for and click the unsubscribe link---either of which will alert the Spammers that your address is "valid and responsive", and then they sell your address to all their cronies. Just hit the Spam tab OR delete them. Unfortunately, it's "nearly" impossible--(once the Spammers get your address) to totally eliminate the incoming Spam. They just change up their address by a letter or number or dot, and keep sending to your "validated" address, which allows them to slip past the Spam Guard (or filters or blocks) Check out "Mailwasher", it's a "big" help in eliminating unwanted emails from your inbox... Click this link, for information about it. It allows you to bounce emails back to the sender---saying address not found. They won't waste their time sending, (or sharing your address with their cronies)---if they think they have an invalid address---So---Spammers will soon stop sending anything to you. That's the theory anyway, and it does seems to work pretty good. Note: the program is free but limited to one email account. http://www.mailwasher.net/
