How can I stop spam which is sending to all contacts in address book?

Someone has hijacked my email address book and is sending out spam mail from my account. How can I stop this?

  • every morning, someone sends out emails to everyone in my address book with a link for viagra. I've changed my password but it is still happening. Is there any way to stop this or should I close my account? I've had this account for years and hate to close it.

    Run a full system virus scan & then change your password. ( you also should have your contacts do the same since it it usually is a type of worm that comes from forwarded emails*

Sounds like your E-mail account has been compromised, or you picked up a virus, Nancy. Immediately have your computer checked for a 'bug' or 'bugs.' If you have the proper programs, do the scans yourself, if not you need to take your computer to some one who can. Once it is clean of pests, install a firewall and an anti-virus program if you do not have one yet. I strongly recommend a program for malware and adware also. After you finish this, then go in and change your password, using a good strong one. Also, check your account information and make sure no information was changed, if it was change it back immediately. Then, you will have to inform your contacts that it was not you sending that mail, but they need to check their computers in case they were also infected.

They already have the contents of your address book, they don't need your account to forge emails "from" your address, but it wouldn't hurt to change your password anyway.
