How to get rid of bulk mail that is truly a pain?

What is the exact settings in the bulk mail to NOT get bulk mail in your inbox?

I used to only get emails from just people I knew. Then I changed the bulk setting thinking I wouldn't have to always delete the bulk mail. How can I re-fix this. Thanks in advance
