Why am I getting so many invites to connect?

I keep getting all these e-mails from random people who want to "connect with me" from yahoo?

I don't know what's going on but every day for the past few days, all at the same time, I get 7 e-mails from people who want to connect to me. At first it was a strange jumbled mess of names, such as WuewoiERW wants to connect to you on yahoo answers" and "qwerewoiuUr wants to connect to you" then it started being real names (probably made up), like "Belinda Smith wants to connect to you". Anyways I get 7 every time and it's really starting to get quite annoying. Also - how do you make it so no one can connect to you at all, and hide your network completely from everybody? Sometimes I run into some people who don't even let you add them as a contact. Idk if I want to do this, but if it keeps up I will.

To stop getting the emails go to http://pulse.yahoo.com/y/settings/email_notifications and set invites to "No".

It appears to be a new way of spamming, if you accept them and connect them it has been reported they give a link to a porn site infected by drive by malware .
