How do I block spam on my email?

How do I block spam messages being sent from my email account if I cannot change my password?

  • Due to an apparently unresolvable issue with an old (now non-existent) SBC Global email address being linked to my Yahoo account - I CANNOT change my password (or make any other admin changes to my Yahoo account. Neither Yahoo nor ATT can seem to figure out how to correct this issue. In the meantime, my account is spaming my friends. So my question is, is there a way to block emails from being SENT from your own email account (in the same way you would block emails from being received)??

  • Answer:

Apparently, for you, there is no way to stop this. Even just changing the password or closing an account does not always work. Once the spammers have the address, there is nothing to stop them from continuing to use it to spam your contacts. Set up a brand new account or an alias so your contacts can trust e-mails from there only and delete the spamming ones. If you open an ALIAS account you will not lose anything (contacts, address list, saved mails, folders.) If someone sends mail to the old e-mail address, it will go to the same Inbox so you don't lose any messages. There is then a drop-down menu at the right in From: where you can choose which address to use to send mail. Use it just as you would your primary address (which of course you can still use). You can send and receive email from either address from the same Inbox. You can have up to 6 alias accounts. http://edit.yahoo.com/config/list_alias * To notify your contacts of the email change, click on Options > Mail Options > Accounts (left side), then click on Add or Edit. Go back and click on Mail again. Under Management, scroll down and click on Announce E-mail Address, compose a message, AND add your Contact List in the header (BCC for e-mail safety!) Send the mail To: yourself. Click on Preview and Send. * You may only send to 100 addresses at one time, 50 at one domain name like @yahoo.com. Since you have sent the first mail To: yourself, you can use this to Forward to the rest of your Contacts List in a second mailing. If you save Sent mail, their addresses show in that mail. * If you want to make your secondary Yahoo e-mail address as your primary address, you can click on Options > Mail Options > Account Information > Password again. Once in your account you will see E-mail Information. Click to designate which one you want as your primary, then click SAVE. If you want a BRAND NEW account with all new details, sign out of your account, then on the new sign-in page, click 'Create a New Account' or click this link and fill out the form to create a new account. https://edit.yahoo.com/registration?.int%85 You can also go to http://www.yahoo.com to click 'Sign up'. Import your Contacts list and forward any important saved mails, one by one. (Ribbit)
