I received an email, total scam, but I really want to report this.... suggestions?
-
I received an email, from an address at mail.com, supposedly from an American troop in Iraq, someone I've never heard of, who is supposedly trying to send out over $12.5 million US dollars stolen from one of Saddam Hussain's palaces or whatever to a safe country. (Apparently, sending $12.5 mil to a total stranger counts as "secure.") Okay, it's clearly NOT valid, but I can't really say I appreciate anyone posing as one of our troops either trying to use his personal story to GET money by email fraud, or by trying to hide money illegally obtained by attempting to sign Stateside civilians to act as safety deposit boxes. Either way, I want to report this email scam to someone. Anyone know how I should handle it?

Answer:
If that message originated from a Y! account, send it off to the following addresses: [email protected] [email protected] Otherwise, just send it off to: [email protected] After that, get the message spammed and deleted into the trash.

There are two quick and easy things you can do: 1. Open the e-mail and click "full headers" at the lower right. Check the e-mail for the REAL e-mail address. (You can verify any ISP you haven't heard of by typing the name into Google's search slot and seeing what comes up). If the ISP really exists (and some don't; the domain names are forged), forward the e-mail to abuse@(real domain name). 2. You can forward fraudulent e-mails (with full headers) to [email protected]

Actually you can report it but there is not a lot Yahoo can do about these scams. The messages come from computers which are taken over by hackers and used for this purpose. It is almost impossible to catch these people. The main thing is for us to be careful not to fall for their scams. Don't answer just delete them Good luck and be careful.
