How does yahoo e-mail account get infected by virus?

I received an email supposedly from yahoo stating that our account is infected with a virus, Is this for real?

  • It wants us to respond with our username and password, or our account will be terminated. This sounds bogus. Anyone else received this?

  • Answer:

I received one similar a couple of days ago and yes it's a virus, don't do anything with it except delete. Then run a scan so that it is removed...

Your password is encrypted so not even Yahoo knows it. ONLY YOU.. get to know your password. For everything, not just email. Its your password and no one else needs to know it

it's a phishing scam. Just read how many people a day post on this board that their account was hacked and all of their emails and contacts are gone. They fell for this very common scam Yahoo will NEVER ask for your password in any email

This is a known phishing scam attempting to get you to give them all your personal info. It's not from Yahoo, just delete it and ignore it. Good luck and be careful.

Pitch it - Don't open any messages embedded in it, either...
