Why doesn't Yahoo delete spam?

Why can't Yahoo Mail automatically delete all future-dated spam?

  • I get a ton of spam email that is dated into the future (e.g., June 1, 2047). Why does Yahoo even allow for that to get into the spam box? Shouldn't it always be automatically deleted, not just flagged as spam? I don't want to auto-delete things in my spam folder because oftentimes, legitimate email gets in there too. (but never any legitimate email dated 2047)

I agree with you. If the message is in an invalid format, they should not even send it to the bulk folder. Here are the types of messages I think they should automatically delete: 1. Messages dated more than a day into the future. 2. Messages of 0 bytes in length. 3. Messages that violate accepted RFC standards. 4. Messages where the domain in the from field does not match the domain in the IP address. 5. Messages where the domain key doesn't match the domain (if the message uses a domain key). There are also messages that I think should never reach even the bulk folder, if desired by the user. I mean, there should be some global rules that users can configure, such as: 1. The ability to block emails from certain countries. Hey, I don't know anyone in Russia, China, or Africa, nor do I do business in those countries. Yet those places are where I get the majority of my spam. It would be nice for these to be deleted out of hand so I will have less junk to pick through in the bulk folder when I check it for false positives. 2. The ability to block messages in different languages. Some people are multi/bi-lingual, and they should be able to get messages in all the languages they read. However, the rest of us should be able to block messages that are written in languages we cannot read. If others send to us in a language we cannot read, it is obvious that they don't know us, so it is either misdirected or spam. 3. The ability to block by top level domain (domain extension). We are already allowed to block individual addresses and entire domains. However, we are not currently allowed messages by domain extension. The new .info top level domain is used mainly by spammers. Allowing someone to be able to block by extension also would allow one to be able to block foreign spam if one doesn't contact anyone using a service on certain TLDs.

If you keep the option to delete immediately any spam in the BULK folder then it will be deleted , click Mail>>Options Click the link 'Spam Protection',check the option for messages Spam Guard identifies as Spam: "Immediately delete these messages upon receipt. (Note: If you choose this option, you will not be able to review the messages before they are deleted.)" under the heading of "For messages Spam Guard identifies as Spam:" in the "Spam Filter", section click 'Save Changes' at the bottom-left of that page.

Maybe it came from the future. And if it can, then so can messages from your future self. You wouldn't want those deleted, because you'd probably be telling yourself how to send e-mails back in time. Such as by sending a message via faster than light particles from a distant location, making them appear to arrive before they began. There would be some sort of device to receive these signals and translate them into current code and send them to a server. You would have to tell yourself how to build that, and that would definitely be an important e-mail. Yahoo knows this.
