Answer:
Desktop shortcut to Mail 1. Open your Mail inbox using whatever browser you like to use. Right-click the address bar and left-click on Copy. (or use Ctrl and C) 2. Right-click any empty area on your desktop. (Note: When you right-click on your desktop, it does not get rid of the link address you just copied.) In the box that pops up, hover your cursor over New, and left-click on Shortcut. Paste the location that you just copied from the address bar into the box that pops up with left-click and Paste. (or use Ctrl and V) Left-click on Next. 3. After you click on Next, name your shortcut. Click on Finish. 4. You now have a shortcut for mail on your desktop. You can leave it there, or drag it to your quick launch bar or Task Bar. If you would like a “real” icon, download one from http://www.iconspedia.com/ 1. Choose Download .ICO. This image has an .ico extension, which means that Windows will automatically recognize it as an icon. Left-click on the Download.ICO button and save the file (image/icon) somewhere that you can remember and go to easily. 2. After you download and save the file, go to your desktop and right-click on your mail shortcut, then left-click on Properties. In the box that pops up (the mail Properties box), you will see four tabs. Left-click on the Web Document tab and then left-click on Change Icon. 3. A box of icons will pop up (Change Icon will be up on top). Left-click on Browse to browse to where you saved your icon. Left-click on it to select it. Then left-click on Open. 4. Now you will see the same icon box you just saw a few minutes ago, only this time it has your Gmail icon in it. Left-click on it to select it, and then left-click on OK. Now you are back to the very first box. Left-click on Apply, and then left-click on OK. Source(s): http://www.worldstart.com/create-a-custom-gmail-desktop-shortcut/ http://www.iconspedia.com/

If it's a free Yahoo mail account, just make a shortcut to http://mail.yahoo.com .

Your question is confusing. Email can be viewed 2 places. Anyone can view it at the email web site for free. If you have a Plus account for $19.99 a year you can view it using a standalone email program such as Thunderbird. To place an icon for any web site on the desktop do the following. Go to the website. Drag the icon that is just to the left of the URL to the desktop. On this page it is a green balloon with a white asterisk in it. For email it is an envelope. You may have to make the window smaller to see the desktop. Rename the Icon as desired. ʎəɿʞɹɐq ̊ ͜͡● ̊
