Our yahoo account was hacked and now all of our e-mails, contacts, etc. are gone. Can this be retrieved?

Is there a way to retrieve a back up of all of our contacts, e-mails, folders etc?

Answer:
Yes, fortunately for you, but first immediately take steps to secure your account! 1. Check that the alternate e-mail address is still yours (Change it first!), and then change both your password AND your secret questions and answers. Make them unique and strong ones! If you have a Yahoo! account, you can change your password at https://edit.yahoo.com/config/change_pw. If you can no longer access your account, you can get a new password at https://edit.yahoo.com/forgotroot/. If you still can’t access your account after going through the “Forgot Your Password” process, you may contact the Customer Care team for assistance. Click Help, then Customer Care, then Live Chat - it make take a while, but a human answers! If you used this password for other accounts, change them too. Make the password longer than 8 characters, with mixed symbols. 2. To be sure your computer is not infected, run both an anti-virus and spyware/malware scans, updated and separately - even more than one malware scan, or Trend Micro's Housecall for an online a-v scan. (in 'Safe Mode with Networking' is the only truly effective method - click F8 repeatedly when the screen first lights on boot-up, then arrow keys and Enter to navigate.) Re-boot into Safe Mode for each separate scan. http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free http://www.superantispyware.com/ If the contents of the account were deleted, or the Address Book, act NOW! There is only 24 hours for recovery, and there are no guarantees. The Restore Help form depends on the mail you use. Classic Mail: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/classic/mail_restore.html Regular (Beta) Mail: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/yahoomail/mail_restore.html Click Contact Us on the Help page, and sign in. Click the Yahoo! Mail Restore Help Form and fill it out. NOTE: That request will delete all e-mails in the Inbox since the 'Restore' date, so keep moving these to another folder, or forward to another e-mail address. (or read and delete.) If you need to restore your Yahoo! Address Book, please fill out the following restoration form and one of the Yahoo! Address Book agents will attempt to restore your Yahoo! Address Book. This is only possible for a few days (4?) but is worth a try. http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/addressbook/ab_restore.html or, click Help on the mail page, then Contact Customer Care. The Live Chat button takes a few seconds to show up, but it will. If not, wait and refresh the page. http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/yahoomail/forms_index.html;_ylt=AmCHkDdTEi0iY55OLdFsOjh2x3hG?last_url=http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/yahoomail/basics/basics-01.html
