I received a Yahoo! email asking for my account password and info. IS IT REAL?
-
I received an email asking for my password and account information to verify my account and prevent it from being deleted. I have received these emails before, but those were obviously scams as the sender's email addresses seemed phony and unnofficial yahoo emails (e.g. [email protected]) However, this time the email i received seemed quite legitimate so i wanted to confirm that there really was an email sent out before i gave away all my account information. this is the content of the email i received: Yahoo! Answer:
Scam!!!! That's a phishing email. Don't reply to the message and give out your personal information to total strangers or you'll risk losing your account to them. Remember that Y! doesn't send unsolicited emails to all its users, as the company already has that stored in its well-secured servers. Go report the message here: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/yahoomail/abuse.html Choose Fraud as the reason for the violation you're reporting on. After that, spam it straight into oblivion without delay.

Yahoo would not ask you for your personal information in an E-mail like that. It is a scam to get your personal information and/or money. Do not respond to it. Report it to yahoo, so they are aware. Forward to [email protected]

No, I repeat NO credible website will ever ask you for your password or any other sensitive information. Just remember that and you should be ok.

Fake. They're not going to ask you for your password in an unsecured open text document when they're trying to "update their security". Secondly, if you want to quickly verify authenticity, use common sense. Why would they ever ask you for your password when they can just as easily access their own database and retrieve or reset your password? Additionally, notice the "From: Yahoo! Inc©"... I'd bet dollars to donuts that if you clicked "Reply", that "Yahoo! Inc" would turn into some BS email address like [email protected]
