  • My yahoo mail is not working. I get this error when I connect to the server. What is the problem? Message number 1 could not be retrieved. Account: 'pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk', Server: 'pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR problem retrieving message.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800420CD

  • Answer:

I have the same problem - see link for my answer to a similar question. Incidently, in the UK (as you and I are), the free version includes full client operation (receive/POP and send/SMTP). As I understand it from Wikipedia, in the US POP is in the free version but you need 'Plus' to get SMTP. Update (10 August): I have done further tests (on other PCs). I am now convinced that this is a Yahoo problem and so have sent them a support question. As to its prevalence, the problem occurs with Outlook 2003 but not Outlook 2007. Also three people reporting it are using the yahoo.co.uk mail servers…

It might be to do with your internet connection, the type of computer, server, browser. Try changing emails to Googlemail or Hotmail.

You must have the paid version of Yahoo Mail, in case you didn't know. If you do have the PAID version, try this page: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/yahoomail/account/;_ylt=AnUZH.VVcecgy2ZfMbQXC_mI7CN4 Then click on "Account and Password" in the left-hand column at the very top. EDIT: I read a response to a different question and the response from someone else said that the UK has free Yahoo Mail so forget what I said about the PAID version. Still, it pays to check it out first. Check your Yahoo UK website for information on this.

You have 2 options If you are using yahoo email beta you can upgrade to yahoo mail plus to get the full pop service http://billing.mail.yahoo.com/bm/Upgrade%E2%80%A6 Or you can use ypops its now compatible with yahoo mail beta but can be a little temperamental http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/E-%E2%80%A6
