How to configure email account- yahoo.com.cn in MS Outlook?
-
I have a @yahoo.com.cn email address and want to set up an Account in Microsoft Outlook 2007. I have been unable to successfully configure the account though my usual LOGIN works perfectly for me to access through Yahoo. Perhaps not possible?

Answer:
You have to reconfigure your Outlook settings. Check out below for more info on how to do it. Well, this answer I typed was intended for another user but it'll fit you too. You tried to download the emails in your yahoo-mail account with a desktop email program, such as outlook, isn't? Well, that was not possible earlier. I said earlier because now yahoo mail has POP support (only for users who is the new beta interface & I guess you are now in the old yahoo-mail interface. Earlier POP support was only for PLUS users.) Not only that, you have to enable the POP support in the yahoo options (only available in the new beta). For that you need to go to your yahoo-mail account in a web browser. The problem here you faced is, you tried to download your emails in your yahoo account with a desktop email client, without knowing that yahoo doesn't allow POP support unless you are a Plus user. But now things has changed & yahoo mail added POP support, but i doesn't recommend using yahoo's POP support & downloading all your content to you computer because when you do so, the emails in your yahoo mail box has a chance to be deleted when transferring. That is, being POP is a old technology, it doesn't have the capacity to synchronize between the email client & your email account. In other words, when you read an email in your email client, that do not mark your email in the native yahoo-mail inbox as READ. So you have to manually mark them as read. Or in other words POP is a one way traffic, so that's why it doesn't synchronize between your email client & your yahoo-mail. If you have to download your emails to your desktop email client, I would recommend you to use IMAP over POP, as it is more newer technology & supports synchronization. You don't have to be any fear of losing your important emails while synchronizing content. As you guessed it's a two way traffic. You don't have to go to the options in your yahoo-mail & enabling it from there for IMAP accessing. I guess it's already activated in every yahoo-mail accounts. I'm accessing my yahoo-mail contents using my phones email client & also with my desktop email client but I didn't ever faced any problems. For IMAP accessing you need to specify some settings where you configured your email client to link to yahoo. There you should choose 'ACCESS WITH IMAP SUPPORT' or something like that & specify the settings that I'm giving below (first I'm giving IMAP settings & then SMTP settings): IMAP SETTINGS --------------------------------------… Connection Type: IMAP4 Server Address: imap.mail.yahoo.com Username: (specify your username) Password: (specify your password) Encryption: SSL Port: 993 --------------------------------------… SMTP SETTINGS --------------------------------------… Server Address: smtp.mail.yahoo.com SMTP authentication: Same as IMAP4 Username: (specify your username) Password: (specify your password) Encryption: SSL Port: 465 --------------------------------------… If you still wish to use POP, please turn on the SSL (It should be turned on for both POP & IMAP) There is an article on Yahoo's Help page itself on how to configure MS Outlook for reading yahoo-mail & activating IMAP: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/classic/mailplus/pop/pop-08.html http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/mobile/mail/imap-01.html http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/mobile/mail/mail-23.html http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/classic/mailplus/pop/pop-36.html If you wish to have more details on the topic, here are a few links that you can study: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Message_Access_Protocol http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post_Office_Protocol
