Why did my Yahoo Mail POP access suddenly stop working?

  • I've been using the Mac Mail application to access my Yahoo mail (Mail Plus, technically) for years now. All of a sudden, I'm not receiving messages from the POP server. I can send messages through the SMTP server without a problem, but when I try to receive mail, nothing happens -- no error message, nothing, it just acts like there are no new messages to download (and accessing through the web email browser clearly shows that there are plenty of new messages to download.) I checked the account settings against Yahoo's and everything seems to be in order. I didn't change anything on my computer. In fact, I was actually camping deep in the woods when the POP access stopped working. What happened?????

    check your mail through the web site http://mail.yahoo.com Check to see if there is an email with a large attachment that might be gumming up the works, or a large number o emails waiting to download through your POP service. You may need to clear some of them out in order to get things moving.
