How do I setup Microsoft Outlook?

How to setup yahoo mail plus in Microsoft Outlook using Microsoft Outlook XP Professional?

  • I have purchased the annual subscription for my email address and also for my wifes email address. I did so through our laptop computer for both. I am able to set up yahoo mail in Outlook 2007 on the laptop (running Vista) to send and receive but can not do so on our stand alone which used Microsoft Outlook XP Professional. Should I have downloaded one mail plus subscription to the stand alone so that it would have updated some setup string allowing yahoo mail to work in Outlook through the POP3 and SMTP settings? The server is recognized as I can receive mail in outlook but can not send. I have the encrypted connection blocks checked and have tried the port settings of 995 for POP3 and 465 for SMTP as well as port 587 with SSL set to none but it keeps telling me it can not send a message and to check the email address setting. What must I do to fex this? If it can not be fix I might just as well canel the Mail Plus subscriptions I bought.

  • Answer:

    1. From the Tools menu, select Email Accounts. 2. Select Add a new email account and click Next. 3. Select POP3 and click Next. 4. Enter the following information: * User Information Your Name: Type your name as you’d like it to appear when you send an email message. E-Mail Address: Type your Yahoo! Mail Plus email address (for example, [email protected]). * Server Information Incoming mail server (POP3): Type pop.mail.yahoo.com. Outgoing mail server (SMTP): Type smtp.mail.yahoo.com. * Login Information User Name: Type your Yahoo! ID (your email address without the "@domain.com"). Password: Type your Yahoo! password. * Select the Remember Password checkbox if you don't want Outlook to prompt you for your password each time you check your mail. * Do not select the Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) checkbox. 5. Click More Settings. The Internet E-mail Settings dialog box appears. 6. Select the Outgoing Server tab: * Select the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication checkbox. * Make sure that Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected. 7. Click the Advanced tab: * Under Incoming Server (POP3), select the This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) checkbox. The number in the Incoming Server (POP3) field usually changes automatically from 110 to 995. If it doesn’t, type 995. * In the Outgoing Server (SMTP) field, type 465. Under Outgoing Server (SMTP), select the This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) checkbox. * If you want to save your Yahoo! Mail messages on both the Yahoo! Mail server and on your computer, select the Leave a copy of messages on the server checkbox. If you want your messages to be deleted from the Yahoo! server once Outlook has downloaded them onto your computer, leave the box unchecked. Note: After your messages are deleted from the server, we cannot retrieve them. 8. Click OK to close the Internet E-mail Settings dialog box. 9. Click Finish to close the Add New E-mail Account dialog box. 10. Click Close to close the Account Settings dialog box. Troubleshooting tips If you still can’t send Yahoo! Mail from Outlook, you might be accessing the Internet through an ISP that is blocking the SMTP port. If this is the case, try using port 587 when sending email via Yahoo!'s SMTP server. To make this change: 1. From the Tools menu, select Account Settings. The Account Settings dialog box appears. 2. Select your Yahoo! Mail Plus account and click Properties. The Change E-mail Account dialog box appears. 3. Click More Settings. The Internet E-mail Settings dialog box appears. 4. Click the Advanced tab. 5. In the Outgoing Server (SMTP) box, type 587. 6. Click Apply, and then click OK to close the Internet E-mail Settings dialog box. 7. Click Close to close the Account Settings dialog box.
