It would appear that the Thunderbird 3.1.11 upgrade is causing problems with the yahoo POP server. Solution?

Work around suggested requires SSL to be switched off . What is the solution without compromising security? Could Yahoo and Mozilla work jointly to resolve the issue rather than both denying it's their problem? It isn't fair to users to play 'pass the parcel' with them

Answer:
Not a Thunderbird problem ... Yahoo is having problems ... the suggested solutions are: 1) turn off SSL and use port 110 instead of 995 or, 2) set your incoming server to pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk port 995 (SSL) The second option worked for me. /Steve

It is a Yahoo POP server problem; pop.mail.yahoo.com is not responding to RFC 5746, likely the certificate expired. No server side fix as of yet, client side fix is to disable require SSL on POP only (SMTP/465 still appears to work); you can follow chatter on Y! Check your Add-On list and uninstall all that are no longer supported. This is *not* actually a yahoo problem. Note that, after this was fixed and my pop downloads were working, I needed to change the uploading server from "plus.smtp. ..." to "smtp. ..." in order to get the uploading server mechanism to query me for my password. This change fixed the upload problem.

Maybe due to IPv6 changes. I found this link with changes to the server details ie: plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com SSL/TLS back ON. Now back to normal service. Hope this helps you.
