Why can't I send emails using Outlook 2007 when on a different wireless hub or hot spot?
-
I use Outlook 2007 to pull in my web mail from Yahoo, (2 accounts) and The Utility Warehouse. Obviously when at home I send emails using the Outlook 2007 facility too. Its a lot easier and more flexible using Outlook 2007 than going into each seperate web mail account. I can store all of my contacts there, I can use the calendar functuntion easily and I can synchronise with my mobile phone. When I go away on holiday or otherwise I always take my laptop with me. I check where ever I am going for the availabilty of wifi so that I can use the internet and check my email whenever I need to. The problem is, that although I can receive emails into Outlook 2007 easily enough I don't seem to be able to send emails. Is there a setting within Outlook preventing this or is it a problem with the providers, (Yahoo and Utility Warehouse)? How can I get around this problem? How do I contact Yahoo about this problem? Does anyone know how to find the contact information?

Answer:
You could try going in to Outlook's outgoing server settings and changing the Port Number from 465 to 587. See Yahoo's Troubleshooting tips below: "If you still can’t send Yahoo! Mail from your mail program, you may be accessing the Internet through an ISP that is blocking the SMTP port. If this is the case, try setting the SMTP port number to 587 when sending email via Yahoo!'s SMTP server."

If you're unable to send email, try using port 587 when sending via Yahoo!'s SMTP server. Here's how to make this change in Outlook: From the "Tools" menu, select "Accounts." Select your Yahoo! POP account and click the "Properties" button. Click the "Advanced" tab. Next to "Outgoing server (SMTP"), change port 25 to 587. Click "Apply." Then click "OK" and Restart outlook There is a Contact Support Care link below if you still need further assistance
