Assuming you have done the prudent thing by ensuring the used computer is properly checked and protected with all the necessary software, you CAN make the necessary setting changes that would allow you to use OE. Firstly, go into Tools, Accounts, and delete any/all accounts that were used by the previous owner. Then open this link ... http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/pop/ ... and under the heading 'POP3 Email Client Settings', choose Outlook Express and follow the steps outlined.

If you get the CDs, I recommend rebuilding the whole thing from scratch, if someone left spyware or adware on it, you don't need it.
starting over
Starting over completely is the best but if you don't want to do that, uninstall it and reinstall it.
