How to get rid of 553 error in Outlook?

I cannot send mail from outlook express via yahoo (error 553)?

  • I cannot send email via yahoo from outlook express - i can send it via another provider so it is yahoo not me ! the error message is .....The message could not be sent because the server rejected the sender's e-mail address. The sender's e-mail address was ***********. Subject 'letter', Account: 'pop.mail.yahoo.com', Server: 'smtp.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '553 From: address not verified; see http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/edit/alternate_email/index.html', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 553, Error Number: 0x800CCC78 I see others have had this problem - but yahoo don't appear to have posted a solution anywhere. Any ideas on how to fix this

  • Answer:

I think Yahoo! has recently made the usernames case-sensitive. Make sure that you use exactly the same case in Outlook Express as you can see it on the website. For example, don't use [email protected] when it's [email protected] on the web.

Important: The Yahoo! Mail SMTP server now requires authentication. To turn this setting on: From the Tools menu, choose "Accounts." Select the "Mail" tab. Double-click the account labeled "pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk." Select the "Servers" tab. Check the box next to "My Server Requires Authentication." Click "OK." Hope this helps
