First you need to download Yahoo Messanger w/ Yahoo Toolbar (you might be able to do this with the Toolbar only, but I did not test this and I know it works this way). You can get this at http://downloads.yahoo.com After that installs, right click on the windows Start button and open properties. If you're using Classic Start Menu, I would recommend switching back to XP start menu until this is finished. Click on the Customize button. At the bottom of the next window "Show on Start menu" there are two items that you can change here. Click on the drop-down tab for Email. Then select Yahoo! Mail. Click OK, then Click OK again in the next window. You're done! Look at your start menu. You can now also make Yahoo! Mail your default email program. Open IE explorer, click on Tools / Internet Options. Click on the Programs tab at the top second setting down for email, select Yahoo! Mail for your default email (probably something similar in FireFox, perhaps someone can elaborate here?) Click OK and you're done, Yahoo! Mail is now the default email client. Also, you can now remove the Yahoo! Toolbar or Yahoo! Messenger from Add / Remove Programs. Just do NOT remove the one that says Yahoo! Internet Mail, that is the program that is allowing you to do this.

you could do as I do , except I had yahoo and now use Outlook Express, go to tools, click on it, and under the programs tab there is a setting for programs, you can click on the yahoo line <it should show up blue and click it and then click on o.k. see if this is what you are wanting. I myself use outlook Express most of the time and have it so I can use it as an online service like yahoo, hotmail or the rest , as I have cable internet and have email set to <>save to server which puts it online the same as yahoo etc.

Outlook Express is XP's default email setting for a computer-based email service(you don't have to be connected to the web to read existing emails or write new ones - only to send and receive.). Yahoo Mail is an internet based service (i.e. you have to be connected to the internet to access it). You cannot, therefore, set it as your default because it is an internet tool. Best thing to do is to set one of your home pages as Yahoo Mail, so as soon as you connect to the web it's there.
