Whats my incoming and outgoing email server?

Whats the outgoing server for yahoo email and the incoming server? are they any different?

  • Answer:

If you have the free version of Yahoo Mail the servers are: Incoming - imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com and Outgoing - smtp.mail.yahoo.com these are for the iPhone. If used in Outlook, they will fool the yahoo server in thinking that the iphone is calling the email and forward any mail perfectly. see as below my guide for outlook 2003/7 etc... • Okay. Unless you have a Yahoo Plus account apparently you can't do it and there are lots of programs to bridge the gap but they have mostly been blocked, however ever since Yahoo let the iPhone get your mail there is a free way...You set up Outlook to mimic the iPhone so Yahoo thinks it's forwarding to it. Folllow each step and you will be fine. SETUP 1) Go into Outlook 2003 and add a new account. 2) Set this up as "IMAP" and not POP (make sure you have activated IMAP in your yahoo account). 3) In "User Info" place your name and yahoo email address as normal. 4) In "Incoming mail server (IMAP)" type "imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com" (without quotes) 5) In "Outgoing mail server (SMTP) type "smtp.mail.yahoo.com" (without quotes) 6) In "Logon Info" type yahoo user name (eg yahoo email address without the @yahoo.com) 7) In "Password" type your yahoo account password. 8) Tick "Remember password". Leave rest untouched. 9) Tick "More Settings" button 10) In first tab "General" rename your mail account to "imap.mail.yahoo.com" (without quotes) 11) In 2nd tab "Outgoing Server" tick "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentification. 12) Make sure the "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" is selected 13) Click "OK" 14) Click "Next" 15) Click "Finish" TO SUBSCRIBE TO YOU IMAP FOLDERS: 1) Your IMAP yahoo mailbox will appear in your "All Mail Folder" in Outlook 2) Right Click directly over the mailbox "imap.mail.yahoo.com" and select "IMAP Folders..." 3) When the pop up screen displays, click the "Query" button (to the right) 4) A selection of folders will be displayed below in the "All" tab 5) Select all of the folders (by highlighting the first one and holding shift key down as pressing the down arrow key...or do each one individually) 6) Press the "Subscribe " button 7) Make sure "When displaying hierarchy in Outlook, show only subscribed folders" is ticked. 8) Press "OK" button NOTES & CHECK SETTINGS 1) Press F9 to do a manual email Send/Receive 2) Any Yahoo emails will download into Outlook. A copy will stay on the yahoo server until you delete them in outlook 3) Any "Spam" mail in yahoo will go into the "Bulk Mail" folder in Outlook. 4) When you mark an item for deletion (by deleting or moving the email, it is displayed with strikethrough text in the header list. To permanently delete the items marked for deletion, do the following: 5) On the Edit menu, click Purge Deleted Messages. (If you do not purge deleted items periodically, you might reach and exceed the allotted disk space on your e-mail server.) Nothing else worked for me except the above and I have been looking at dozens of suggestions. Even MSoft reckons yahoo mail is all free now but they're not as you know too.
