What is an incoming pop3 server and outgoing SMPT server address?

Incoming server type for my email address?

  • I just got a new mobile and after clicking on email on the menu page, i typed in my email address and password on the first page. On the second page it is demanding my email information (hotmail) and it wants; - Incoming server type (with the choice of POP3 or IMAP4) - Incoming sever (It wants me to write something in..?) - Outgoing sever (SMPT) Help! i have no idea what these are. Can anyone tell me where i can find out this information as it wont let me proceed onto the next page and finish setting up my email. Many thanks

It depends on what server your using for yahoo mail you need upgrade to yahoo mail plus (@ $19.99 per year).to get the full pop3 service for access to Outlook,Incredimail, Thunderbird and others. For more info on setting up your pop3 account see the link below. http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/classic/mailplus/pop/pop-35.html * Incoming Mail Server (POP3): plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com Use SSL, port: 995 * Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com Use SSL, port: 465, use authentication. There is a free program called "YPOPS" it's not approved by yahoo and is not fully compatible some users can get it to work but most can't. If you have “yahoo.co.uk” address some users can get free pop forwarding see below. Click “options” (top right) on your mail page>mail options>pop and forwarding> Set up or edit pop & forwarding>type in the address you want to forward to and click save. * Incoming mail server (POP3): pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk Use SSL, port: 995 * Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smpt.mail.yahoo.co.uk Use SSL, port: 465. Note: In order to be able to send emails from outlook and others through/to yahoo (pop3) you need to pay for a yahoo mail plus account. @ £11.99 per year. http://help.yahoo.com/l/uk/yahoo/mail/classic/manage/pop-06.html

If you are new to these terms, a few things I learned: 1. Call your ISP, ask (by phone) what this info is for YOUR connection. POP3 or IMAP4 are incoming mail protocols and you need to type that info in CORRECTLY. The SMPT is your Outgoing protocol. 2. WRITE the EXACT info down somewhere (Your Cheat sheet) for reference later. DSL has only been available in our area less than 1 yr and I have to redo my info frequently (when wind blows). So if you have it handy, it is much easier. 3. These options also need to be checked in the "TOOLS", "INTERET OPTIONS" and "CONNECTIONS". NOTE: Once you get the ISP help folks on the phone keep them there until they walk you through the complete setup of these options. Also WRITE IT DOWN. KEEP it somewhere for future reference, believe me you will NEED it. Good luck. BettyE
