Can you now use "Outlook Express" to access Yahoo mail?

Access problems via POP mail?

  • All of a sudden my yahoo account will not work through my POP mail client (outlook express). I have not changed any settings, nor changed any of the username or password details. I can still access my Yahoo account via webmail with the username and password which the POP mail client will not allow me to use. The error message I get is that my 'username and/or password are invalid', but they have not been changed. Please can someone give some advice how to rectify this problem. Thank you

    If its just started happening and nothing has changed at your end the problem could lie with Yahoo. Perhaps they are ungoing some maintenance on the pop server? I would wait a few hours and retry.

hi im having same problem too, started about 5 days ago. dont seem to be able to find out why, but maybe is yahoo problem and quite a few people having same issue!!

Same problem here since this morning. Wasted all morning trying to find out what was wrong with my computer. Must be yahoo having problems with their servers.

Im the same guys.....If I were to take a guess I would say this is a way of forcing us to upgrade to a premium account in order to get POP access.....so looks like it is now turned off for the freebie account. I have no official word to back this up, but I did read on there pages that only premium accounts provide POP access. I've been with yahoo for years for this reason...I will now be leaving :) **EDIT** Sorry guys I have to edit this one as I can't add a new post. I just went in to my POP/Forwarding settings in the web interface and noticed it was disabled! I have 2 yahoo accounts and they are both disabled....I didn't even touch the settings. I have enabled them both and POP access seems to be working again. Very strange....Yahoo have done something to trigger the change. But anyway....I suggest you all double check just in case! I have the same problem. I suspect what Jar is saying is correct. Looks like time to move on from Yahoo.

I posted the question about access through Thunderbird. My wife's Yahoo mail account is still accessible which seems very odd. I've set up a forwarding of my mail to her. Lets hope it's only a short term problem. Ian M

Aaargh! Wish I had found this question and answers about 2 hours ago, before I spent my evening fiddling with and even reinstalling Thunderbird! Having checked my settings in my Yahoo Mail Account it turns out POP access was disabled (as someone else found above). Why did Yahoo see fit to change my settings and not tell me? Not very helpful.... Ben

Exactly as descibed earlier in the thread, POP was disabled in my account. Go to Options -> POP Access & Forwarding and reenable Web & POP Access and you should be back in business.

i have the same problem. tried changing my password, changing settings and tried different mail clients, all with the same error: -ERR invalid username/password. i think it is definitely a yahoo server problem.
