Why won't yahoo messenger work on my computer??

My computer is connected to the internet but when I go to sign in at yahoo Messenger can't find connection

I got an answer but I tried everything suggested but it still won't work. If I try to sign in with a different ID it tells me the connection to the yahoo server cannot be completed at this time. I have cable modem. So when I try to setup proxy connection it keeps telling me to try again and I'm not connected. Does anyone know what to do? Or could it be a setting in my computer somewhere? I sure would like to fix this. Thanks for any help I can get. Also somtimes it has an error # 26.

Error 26 is connection error, for some reason your computer is unable to connect to yahoo server if your computer is connected to the Internet then TCP/IP port 5050 might be blocked by your service provider and one more thing, why you use proxy connection, when chat is always recommended without proxy. and try web messenger as well http://webmessenger.yahoo.com/ Good Luck!
