How can I read messages on my BlackBerry curve?

My blackberry Curve is showing 5 unread messages but there is nothing to read?

• a couple of days ago it said 2 unread and now it has changed to 5...i have tryed turning my phone on and off,taking the battery out several times,mark all opened,saved messages,and went through all my folders and nothing is working any help would be appreciated!!!!!!??

  In order to make the notifications go away you need to click on the messages you receive. You have to go your messages and then you have go click on each one of them. Many times when we receive a text or email notification, we go to that area and are able to read the message without clicking on it. If after reading it the message it is still in Bold, the notification is going to stay there untill we click on it. For example, It says that I have 9 new messages on facebook. These are all old messages. I have already viewed them. But in order for the facebook notification to dissappear I have to go back and click on them. .
