How do I get my computer to notify me when I get a email?

I can get into my yahoo account but can't retrive email. My sister can get into hers from the same computer.

I get an error message saying the website is unavailable and/or experiencing difficulties and cannot find the server. However, when my sister checks her email and I do have another personal email account that I have been checking and have no problems checking my email from the same computer.

Welcome to the party. I am experiencing the same. I can sign in, see 'my yahoo' web page, see my address book, calendar, etc. everything but the mail section.
