Can you send anonymous text messages?

my partner has recieved a few text messages from different numbers saying some pretty nasty things. when trying to call these numbers it says that it cannot connect. is it possible somebody is sending messages from a fake number? Or if you know of some other way that this can be done could you please let me know. thanks.

You can track the number from where it is coming from! its like this number you call and you say the number that called you, and they track them down and go to their house! LOL but only use it if they r really nasty!

No you can't send anonymous texts, they could be taking the sim card out afterwards? Sounds like a lot of trouble just to piss someone off.
