Why won't yahoo.com display as my homepage?

Yahoo homepage and Yahoo mail checker widget display incorrect new message counts?

I have been using the Yahoo mail checker widget for some time and lately it has been displaying more new messages than I have, for instance, I get an email, it says one, then I get another and it says two, and the count won't reset, even after I have read them. This gets really annoying after 9+ emails, because then I don't know if I have a new one. It resets every once in a while to zero, just randomly. The same problem is occurring on the Yahoo homepage, and I assume that the widget gets its total from the homepage. Is this a glitch with Yahoo or the widget or is something wrong on my end?
