Answer:
I suggest setting Yahoo! Mail to your default client. Then when you you click an email link Y!Mail will open automatically. Just follow my instructions: First, you have to install a MAPI handler compatible with Yahoo! Mail and you get it by installing Yahoo! Messenger. If you don't want Messenger, don't worry, you can uninstall it immediately -- in fact, you don't have to run it even once. Go here to download Messenger: http://messenger.yahoo.com/download.php When the installer runs, be sure to install the Browser Services: on Step 2 of the installation process, under "Choose Products To Install" choose Custom Install, then check the box next to Browser Services. You don't need to install anything else except Messenger (required) and Browser Services. On the final installation screen, you can uncheck the box if you don't want Messenger to launch. Verify that the necessary program was installed and configured properly by going to your Control Panel >> Add/Remove Programs. If you see 'Yahoo! Internet Mail' and 'Yahoo! Browser Services' in the list, you're all set. If either one is not listed, I'm not sure what went wrong but try uninstalling both Yahoo! Browser Services AND Yahoo! Messenger, and try downloading Messenger again. While you're in Add/Remove Programs you can go ahead and uninstall Messenger right now if you don't want it on your computer. (Just don't uninstall Yahoo! Browser Services or Yahoo! Internet Mail.) Now you will be able to select Yahoo! Mail in Internet Options >> Programs. (You can do this either from Internet Explorer or from your Control Panel.) This works for Windows XP and should work for Vista as well, but I haven't tested it with Vista.

Yes. Yahoo! Mail will work as it did before and OUTLOOK or whatever you have as your default client will pop up when you click a mailto: or similar link.
