How to change the time stamp on outgoing/incoming e-mail?

How do I change settings so that the time stamp on an email is correct?

  • For instance...I just got an email. It is not quite 10 pm here but the time on the email says 4:45 am. It has been driving me crazy...

  • Answer:

You can't change it. That's the timestamp applied when the message was sent. It may be incorrect because the sender's computer or email server is set to the wrong time zone, or because the sender deliberately altered the timestamp (something spammers frequently do.) Although in this case, it's probably because the time sent does not indicate a time zone. (View the full header to check this.) If the time zone is not indicated, it defaults to Greenwich Mean Time. 4:45 GMT is the same as 9:45 Pacific Daylight Time (or 9:45 Mountain Standard Time if you live in Arizona.)
