How do I get rid of the constant yahoo alerts off my email?

Every time I check my yahoo email there are tons of "Yahoo Alerts-breaking news" in it. It is clogging up my email and I can receive 100's of them in just one week! I've tried putting them in my spam but that isn't working! I'm sick of sifting through tons of useless alerts to check my email!
