  This is what I do when I get the 999 error. Sign out, Shut down the computer, turn off the modem. Wait for a few seconds or so, then turn back on the computer, after it loads turn on the modem. Sign in and it's usually is gone. If not, leave them off for a few minutes, only this time, unplug the modem after you turn it off, then turn everything back on. This has always worked for me, and others.
