Why do Americans say Happy Holidays, not Happy Christmas?

Should we say "merry Christmas" or "happy holidays".?

  • I don't get why stores and places can't say merry Christmas for the holidays... Everyone beleives is something diffent. Well of in American I can't say merry Christmas I feel like whoever has an issue should get out of my damn country then. Uhggg idk what I'm even saying or asking but it pisses me off. And now the president is saying "holiday trees" instead of Christmas trees. Like wtf

  • Answer:

Dear wtf. Just say Merry Christmas. My grandparents came to Cn. in 1917 and they called it Merry Christmas. We have all-ways said Merry Christmas. I mean really. I'm not in the least bit religious but I still say Merry Christmas. Keep saying it and I will too. r

Not everybody in America celebrates Christmas. Therefore, the saying "Happy Holidays" is often used instead. Personally, I usually wish someone a merry Christmas, unless I know they don't actually celebrate it.

Because some people dont beleive in christ but still celebrate the holiday season, so people say "Happy Holidays" :). Because they dont know who is a follower of christ
