What does "Boxing Day" means?

everyone knows that boxing day is a day for you to go shop after christmas. But, what does it actually means? Is it a day that that all stores or onsale? or is it a day that everyone just feels like going shopping. And i have another IMPORTANT question, if i go shop with my friends the day after boxing day, will there still be items? or it'll be only a very few items? Thank you.

It is a day where sale is so tempting that people boxing each other to buy a piece b4 it is all sold...of course it is just an expression invented by marketing guru's to stimulate people to shop.
