Why do people celebrate New Years?

  • Why do people celebrate New Years? Isn't the concept of keeping a record of 'duration' merely a human invention? Why do we act like the centers of the universe during "New Years"? We invented the whole thing for convenience: seconds, minutes, hours, days, years. Why celebrate it at all? It makes no actual, concrete sense. We invented something completely arbitrarily, and then we celebrate it every now and then...Why celebrate it?

    Because we are celebrating the many scenarios, soon to be memories, etc the year right in front of us has to offer. We are celebrating the good of the last year, and the good of the new year.

It's kind of like washing clean. You may do things your not proud of in the past, but in the new year your moving forward. Moving on. Starting over kind of. It's a way of letting go of the past, and making a better tomorrow. At least for me it is. :)

Everyone, in some sort of fashion, has heard of the old expression, "Out with the old, and in with the new". It's literally celebrated for a fresh start, or a new beginning. we can all look back and say, "I'd probably have done THIS differently, if I had the chance" or something along those lines, so we also came up with the perfect time to exercise resolutions.

its just a stupid excuse for people to get piss-*ss drunk. really, take the drinking aspect out of it and all the people who actually get "excited" about the new year honestly wouldnt care. sh*t, they probably dont even know what theyre doing right now...
