What Americans buy on Black Friday and Cyber Monday?

I heard about Black Friday and Cyber Monday for awhile and I knew these two events are close to each other-about 10 days ahead. What Americans buy on these days and why they have to call them differently? What type of products they purchase that make the connecting shopping period called different? Is it true that Americans spend a lot more during this short period. Do they shop online or go to stores to pick what they buy themselves? I'm not Americans and aware of this big event, but don't understand why this shopping period is so special in the U.S.A. Thanks for nice detailed answers.

Only the best shopping days ever!!!!!!! hahaha Its when alot of stores go on sale for christmas gifts (and hanukah) just because really. People (mostly women (not being sexist)) crowd and run into stores to get cheaper gifts for children, friends, and relatives. Its like when a store has a big sale... but ALL stores!
