Mothers' Day Started in Greece to honor Rhea, the mother of ancient Greek gods. England, 17th century, was called Mothering Day. They would bake a mothering cake and take it to their mothers to honor them. Julia Howe in the United States, dedicated the first Mothers' Day in 1872 to peace, after the Civil War. Jarvis started a nationwide campaign for a federal holiday, May 10, 1908. First state to honor this was W Virginia in 1910. President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed it a National holiday in 1914, second Sunday in May. My mother died when I was a baby. I know that she has watched over me all my life. I do honor her every year, with my six children and eight grandchildren. I know she would be proud. :D

Mother's day was born from grand mother's day and grandfather's day. Mother's day and father's day together give birth to children's day.

Mother has brought us here on earth and nurtured us as God does perhaps through her. Gratitude and not to hurt her is the greatest tribute one can give.

Blessings....... Nice Question Anil, ..The modern Mother's Day holiday was created by Anna Jarvis as a day for each family to honor its mother,[1] and it's now celebrated on various days in many places around the world. It complements Father's Day, the celebration honoring fathers. This holiday is relatively modern, being created at the start of the 20th century, and should not be confused with the early pagan and Christian traditions honoring mothers, or with the 16th century celebration of Mothering Sunday, which is also known as Mother's Day in the UK. In most countries the Mother's Day celebration is a recent holiday derived from the original US celebration. Exceptions are, for example, the Mothering Sunday holiday in the UK.,,,,, I am a Panamanian so most Spanish Country celebrate Mothers Day some on the 5th of May and most on December the 8th , this last one is my Country Mothers Day....... Different countries celebrate Mother's Day on various days of the year because the day has a number of different origins.[citation needed] One school of thought[who?] claims this day emerged from a custom of mother worship in ancient Greece, which kept a festival to Cybele, a great mother of Greek gods. This festival was held around the Vernal Equinox around Asia Minor and eventually in Rome itself from the Ides of March (15 March) to 18 March. The ancient Romans also had another holiday, Matronalia, that was dedicated to Juno, though mothers were usually given gifts on this day. In addition to Mother's Day, International Women's Day is celebrated in many countries on March 8. Spelling In 1912, Anna Jarvis trademarked the phrases "second Sunday in May" and "Mother's Day", and created the Mother's Day International Association. [1][2] "She was specific about the location of the apostrophe; it was to be a singular possessive, for each family to honour their mother, not a plural possessive commemorating all mothers in the world."[1] This is also the spelling used by U.S. President Woodrow Wilson in the law making official the holiday in the U.S., by the U.S. Congress on bills,[3][4] and by other U.S. presidents on their declarations.[5] Common usage in English language also dictates that the ostensibly singular possessive "Mother's Day" is the preferred spelling. Dates around the world Mother's Day is celebrated on different days throughout the world. Examining the trends in Google searches for the term "mother's day" shows two primary results, the smaller one on the fourth Sunday in Lent, from the British tradition of Mothering Sunday (it is also called ladies day and women's day), and the larger one on the second Sunday in May.[6] The extent of the celebrations varies greatly. In some countries, it is potentially offensive to one's mother not to mark Mother's Day. In others, it is a little-known festival celebrated mainly by immigrants, or covered by the media as a taste of foreign culture (compare the celebrations of Diwali in the UK and the United States.........In Panama on Mothers Day , We go to Church, give our moms gifts we cook a lot, dance drink , and those who do not have a mom any longer will go visit her grave side put flowers on her grave pray talk to her and also cry.,,, I thank Gods my mom is still alive , she lives in Panama I mail her a gift, called her up on the phone and Wish her a Happy Mothers Days, and she goes I am not an American I am Spanish, then i go but mom i lives in America now, and she says well that is just you, my mom is very cute and funny and I am just like her in every thing,,,,,,,,Happy Mother days to All Mom around the Word...,,,Hi Glow Wings( Carole ) You are a super lady and very funny i already told you so, I am sooooo sorrythat you mom is no longer here on earth girl this is so sad to lose a parents at such an early age its was the Lord who took good care of you all of your infancy and young age, i just feel so bad for you and had to let you know i care, well girl have a nice Mothers day with all of your childrens and grand childrens, May God keep you safe in the Center of His Will I Love You Girl.Peace.

Mothering Sunday is different in UK from USA. Mothering Sunday was the week before Easter, and all the little servant girls in big houses would be given permission to go visit their mothers then. In USA some woman invented it and it happens in May, nothing to do with Easter.
