When you sign off the dole, do you get a P45?

When you sign off the dole, do they give you a P45?

  • I became unemployed in August, and signed on the broo. Ironically, they have just accepted my claim. I've got another job now that I start Monday week. It's just a part time one, and it pays only slightly more than dole, but at least I'm back to earning it instead of taking out of other people's taxes. Anyway, to get to the point, when I sign off will they give me a P45, or a statement of what they have paid me, or something I can give to my new employer to avoid me having to pay emergency tax? Also, can you "sign off" in advance, or should I sign off in my break on the first day?

  • Answer:

yes they will give you a p45. it usually takes about a week to come through. you can also fill out a p46 or p60 (cant remember which it is) the finance director or manager will know and have copies. personally i would wait to sign off. at least until you get paid or for a couple of weeks. juist to make sure that the job is for you and to make sure there is no underlap of pay. i started work and signed off then had no money for a month. the last time i started a job i waited a couple of weeks before i signed off.
