What are some good resources to learn about Australia?

My study abroad plans have recently changed and I will be going to Australia! I am very excited, however I don't know very much about it. Basically, I am looking for some good resources that can teach me the basic history, current political situation, and just about the culture in general. My biggest fear is arriving as a "stupid American." I could definitely find these resources on my own, but was just wondering if anyone had any particularly good suggestions, maybe a good book that they're read or a website or newspaper that they frequent.
