Answer:
Wow, heaps. Myall Lakes is close to Newcastle and has a really cool, massive lake and also the beach right there. Anywhere within an hour or two south of Wollongong is nice, say Kiama or Batemans Bay, these are on the beach. Blue Mountains is a very nice area just west of Sydney. Great bush walks and spectacular scenery. Byron Bay, Ballina are about 90min south of Gold Coast and, again, are on the beach and are awesome. If you want a nice drive then go on the Princes Hwy rather than the Hume. The Hume is basically a straight road that gets you from Melbourne To sydney fast whereas Princes is more scenic, hugs the coast and can take you to some nice camping spots along the way.

Try the Telegary State Forest near Dungong. Camping in the bush near a river. http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20110105092806AA5V69U http://www.nswholidays.com.au/nsw/hunter-valley-dungog-8L448.html Also the Watagan Forest near Morisset is great too. http://www.about-australia.com/travel-guides/new-south-wales/central-coast/attractions/natural/the-basin-camping-area-watagan-mountains/

Green Patch is a very picturesque, family-friendly campsite, within Booderee National Park, on the NSW South Coast. It is near Nowra. It is on the shores of Jervis Bay, right beside the beach, which is stunning and very safe for swimming. The campsite also has a prolific birdlife, although some of the local residents are somewhat cheeky! Green Patch is also only a few kilometres away from Hyams Beach, which, according to the Guiness Book of Records, has the whitest sand in the world! It is, however, extremely popular and bookings are apparently essential. I've not been there, but Crescent Head on the NSW North Coast is also supposed to be pretty nice. Meanwhile, if you get stuck with bad weather, or can't get into a campsite or just don't feel like another night of camping, you could always try a hostel. There are plenty of them up and down the East Coast. YHA has four on the South Coast, at Narooma, Batemans Bay, Merimbula and Wollongong. They also have several on the North Coast, at Terrigal (Sydney's Central Coast), Port Stephens, Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour and Bellingen. Have a fun camping trip!
