What are some surfing colleges?

Where to live in Australia ... best place to live? surfing and culture?

  • I'm looking for a place in Australia to live. I need a place with LOTS of ethnic diversity, lots of different cultures, different foods and lots of places to eat and shop. No where too touristy or fake please. I want to be by locals. Preferably a BIG city with really good surfing and a warm climate. Tell me what the high schools and colleges are like too? What about Byron Bay, Sydney, Melbourne, Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast, Coolangatta and Tasmania?

mmmm.. i would say sydney hits those, but i live in sydney.. near the beach.. and its not as chilled out as you seem to want it to be. sydney beaches get packed in the summer. and you need money to live near the beach, so lots of rich kids pollute them and think theyre top. and the beach areas arent as culturally diverse as other subburbs. i dont know how good the surfing is, but i hear from alot of people who move here that they give up surfing when they come because they dont have time because of the city environment, but i guess that dependso n the person you are and what part of sydney you're living in. sydney is VERY culturally diverse. you can go to just about any subburb and get a range of different mexican, italian, chinese, indian, thai, japanese foods. sydney isnt fake though, and not too touristy. sure if you go to circular quay or something you're going to see tourists, but what reason other than going to the MCA (modern contemporary art museum) or getting a ferry to manly would you EVER need to go there? now if its fake you want, check out canberra. :P sydneys got great climate if you're wanting warm. the coldest it gets (in winter) is on average of 7 degrees celcius.. hottest, mm it got past 40 this summer. the humidity is good here, not like cairns. yuck. schooling.. the schools are great depending on your area, try to research where you plan to move first.. wouldnt want campbelltown or something like that. so yeah, try to move more near the beaches and the schooling gets nicer, or the city schools are pretty good. ive never heard a bad thing about a uni, i just finished high school, my sister and all her friends are just finishing uni, they all loved it.. they went to different ones. and my friends have just started their uni courses and they all seem to be enjoying it. man. ive written too much. byron bay.. more a surfy place.. not much cultural diversity.. i like it there. melbourne.. a smaller sydney cbd.. less beach.. better shopping.. better night life.. cooler weather.. surfers paradise .. fake, touristy.. beachy.. hot gold coast... its huge.. specify. coolangatta... i dont even think i know where that is.. tasmania.. like a little england.. cooler.. prettier.. greener.. :D hope this helped

The only place that has everything on your list is Sydney. It's a big city (4 million +) with great surf beaches, great ethnic diversity, heaps of places to eat and shop, plenty of tourists but far more locals. The climate is OK too though not as warm as the Gold Coast. Sydney has a huge selection of good schools and several universities (colleges). Byron Bay has good surf and weather but misses out on every other point. It's a small coastal town and is very touristy. Melbourne has no surf and the weather is pretty cold by Australian standards. Has everything else though. Surfers Parasite (oops) is warm and has good surf but it's very touristy and fake and isn't a big city. Surfers is a part of the Gold Coast and all of the same comments apply to the Gold Coast. Same for Coolangatta though it's at the somewhat less touristy end of the Gold Coast. Tasmania is cold and there are no big cities down there. Not as much ethnic diversity as in other parts of Australia either.

Sydney's the only one that ticks all those boxes - specifically the Eastern Suburbs.

Power Flower

Surfers Paradise, Coolangatta are all the gold coast, it sounds that its the goldie that your looking for, warm climate and good food and schools and most importantly great surf, a little crowded though. Byron bay is not a city its a small town, but has uncrowded world class waves, i have never been to sydney, melbourne or tassie, but if you like surfing in cold water and it being crowded(excluding tassie) in the line up them be my guest.

Most high schools in sydney are very multicultural. Anywhere along the coast in Sydney will suit your needs..
