Where is the best place to live in Australia... Queensland or Melborune?
-
I need to find out which city is the best to live in because my family and I want to move to Australia but we don't know where would be the best place to live if we have never been there. We have lived in three different countries so moving to a new country wont be a problem :). just we need to find out where is it the cheapest, where is the nicest climate, where are good schools, where can we find a good job, where is the best entertainment, nice beaches, and the most important of all where are the nicest people :). Please help us by telling me your opinion. P.S. You can recommend any other place which you may think is better, I'll gladly here about any other places. Thank you!

That's actually a very difficult question to answer. I was born and raised in Melbourne and my family is still there. I go there several times each year and love the place. It's a lovely, vibrant city with marvellous restaurants, the best shopping in Australia, a great cultural and entertainment scene, good schools, great public transport, good (still water) beaches very close to the city, plenty of work, amazing sporting venues and nice people BUT it has the most dreadful climate. Cold (in Australian terms), drizzly, damp, grey winters and scorching hot summers and so changeable that it's said to have 4 seasons in one day. Go to Melbourne in March or (usually) November and you wouldn't live anywhere else. Go any other time, and you'll probably be wondering why 4 million people live there. 37 years ago, I moved to Brisbane for work reasons, but wild horses wouldn't drag me out of the place now. People who don't know the Brisbane of the last 15 years or so talk of it as being like a big country town but it's not like that now. It's a beautiful, subtropical, green and leafy city on a beautiful river about 23km from the sea. Excellent restaurants, good (though not great) shopping, good schools, good public transport in some areas and terrible in others, reasonable work opportunities but nothing like as good as Melbourne, plenty of parks and sporting venues, a reasonably good entertainment scene (but not as good as Melbourne), no decent beaches (but only an hour away from some of the best beaches in the world on the Gold and Sunshine Coasts), nice people AND Australia's best capital city climate. Amazing, sunny, dry, warm winters; beautiful springs and autumns (though the seasons are not at all distinct here) and very warm to hot, fairly humid summers (though not nearly as hot as it gets in Melbourne). People from other states greatly exaggerate how humid it gets in Brisbane. We certainly do get a few very sticky days each year, but only a few and the climate the rest of the time more than makes up for it. It's the middle of winter and I'm sitting here in front of an open window in a light, 3/4 sleeve top and am very comfortable in the 22ºC (71.6ºF) temperature. Outside, the sun is shining, there's not a cloud in the sky and it's been like that for weeks with weeks more to come.

Melbourne rated as one of the most expensive cities to live in, in the world. It`s up there with New York, Hong Kong, ect. The beaches in Melbourne are small and there are no waves. Because Melbourne is at the bottom of Australia (away from the Equater). The weather is cooler then Queensland. In Melbourne they have a saying you can have four seasons in one day there. Melbourne is very socialable. Melbourne has lots of year round activities, artistic, and multicultural. Queensland is just on the edge of the Equater and warm to hot year round. Queensland has the best beaches, with big waves. People come from around the world just to visit The Great Barrier Reef: in Queensland. Queensland is much cheaper to live in then Melbourne. Queensland has theme parks, and lots of national parklands. Queensland is a large state and each area has it`s own identity. You can find jobs anywhere. Experiance, certificates and confidence will help you get the job. Some employers are really desperate for employees, yet can`t find people willing to the job. Example: hard farm work in the middle of no where.

I would say Melborune. In school when we were learning about the two Melborune sounded more interesting.

Queensland is better because there's actually Aussies there

I see Melbourne as more of a city to call home, whereas Queensland (the state) as being more of a holiday destination. Melbourne is more expensive to live in than Queensland, but the outer suburbs are pretty cheap. But I believe it has better schools, more job opportunities, friendlier people, and better entertainment (that doesn't cost a fortune to visit a theme park). It's a very multicultural city with events and festivals all year round. If you love sports, it's the city to be in. But Melbourne is cooler as it is further south and closer Antarctica, until summer time when the sun is always out and it is very warm/hot. You won't find any surf at the beaches in Melbourne as the city is located on a bay. But the beaches are still great for families, and for activities like kite surfing, swimming, boating, jet skiing, sunbaking etc. However there are some brilliant and breathtaking beaches about 1-2 hours drive south from Melbourne, such as the beaches along the world famous Great Ocean Road, or the Mornington Peninsula, heading towards Gippsland. Queensland is better to visit as it appeals more to those who want a holiday. It is known as the "Sunshine State" and has many great beaches and the world famous Great Barrier Reef. As Queensland is located in the tropics, it is warm pretty much all year round. The south east of the state can get cold during winter, but not too often. Cities like the Gold Coast (not a good place to live as it is the most dangerous city in Australia, but perfect for a holiday) has lots of theme parks like Movie World, Wet n Wild, Sea World, White Water World, Dreamworld etc, so your kids could enjoy that. I hope that helped!
