Which is better to Visit North or South Island of New Zealand?

Where should you absolutely visit in the South Island New Zealand?

• We are going with my Mum in law for two weeks. We are flying into Christchurch and have two weeks. What are the best places to visit with our limited time?

  Forget the franz josef and fox glacier unless you are going on the ice walk or helicopter tour. Mount cook is much better with plenty of glaciers and the scenery is spectacular. You have to visit Lake Wanaka, Queenstown, Milford sound and do a drive from Haast to lake Wanaka... nonstop rolling mountains on one side and lake on the other. I also recommend Lake Tekapo which is on the way to Mount Cook, the lake is crystal green on a sunny day and blue on a coudy day. You need a good supply of anti-sandfly spray especially at Milford Sound. Note that if you are driving, the cheapest petrol would be at Christchurch, most expensive is at Franz Josef with none at Mount cook
