What's it like living and studying in Spain?

James Cook University? Whats it like studying and living in Townsville?

  • I am form the USA and am going to be studying occupational therapy for my graduate school. I would love to attend a university in Australia. After some research, James Cook University caught my attention. So has anyone ever attended James Cook University or heard anything about it? Whats it like living in Townsville? Is it expensive to live in Townsville (compared to the rest of Australia)? Is there alot of nice beaches (ocean beaches) and sites to see in Townsville? Whats the night life in Townsville? Any and all other information is greatly appreciated about the university of the city itself.

    Townsville is in the Tropics . so you get a wet and dry season. Hot and humid. I like Townsville and it has a lovely water front . Beaches well some are ok but I wouldn't go in them because of lurking creatures. But your not far from The great Barrier reef for some Great snorkling. Magnetic Island isn't far away. people like to go there and party.

Ldawgc, James Cook is a world reputed University for Marine Biology and Sciences. We have graduates here in Canada going over to Masters Degrees. I have been to Townsville, I found it as a visitor a great City, being on the coast, and a jumping off point to the Whitsundays, the Great Barrier Reef and Magnetic Island. Your will find Townsville to be very affordable, and there is an area of Townsville that the Uni students take over to let their hair down. There are beaches up there that are really great, but your will seek the good ones out with time. Do well my friend.

My sister investigated going to James Cook and was completely put off by the atmosphere. Apparently you don't go to James Cook if you want to study, because all the partiers are there...
