Where should I live in Australia?

Where to live in Australia?

  • my friend and i want to move to Australia with a work visa but we don't know where. we are both 20 and want to live somewhere warm and by the beach so i was thinking the gold coast.. but i also want to live around other students and young adults and possibly study while I'm there. are there any specific streets or complexes that other young adults typically live at on the gold coast? by a university?

  • Answer:

Young people typically live at Varsity Lakes (Near the uni), Surfers Paradise (party town), there arnt many spots were just young people live. The best place is the southern end of the coast on the border of NSW and QLD. Its close to Southern Cross Uni, the airport and a cruisier lifestyle with heaps of cafes, shops and some of the most beautiful beachs in Australia p.s Sydney is so overrated, its only warm from November - Feb/march (I always have to go there - 5-6 times a year, this year already been about 8 times) EDIT: My flatmate moved in with us from England late May and LOVES IT

The Gold Coast is a tacky tourist trap with lots of old people and retirement homes. If you want warm, beaches and lots of students, Sydney is the place for you. The University of Sydney and the University of NSW are two of the top universities in the country closely followed by Macquarie University and the University of Technology. There is also the University of Western Sydney and various colleges of other universities.

More wishful thinking. To obtain a work visa you need both skills and experience that Australia requires. At your age it's a safe bet you won't qualify. The Australian Government has an excellent website with all the details. Read it for yourself.

Sydney. In the city. Is amazing. There are so many nice restraints and things to do and he beaches are close.

The Gold Coast has two world recognized universities: Griffith University and Bond University. I think Southern Cross also has a campus on the southern end of the Gold Coast. The Gold Coast is a vibrant city and is much more than a tourist destination. Speak to those who live here on the Gold Coast and not those who visit for a week and have a bad experience. Contact the universities direct.

Just to correct something that a couple of the other answerers said... The number one university in Australia is actually the Australian National University in Canberra.

unless you are both highly skilled in an occupation listed as needing workers your only chance is if you qualify for a 12 month working holiday visa
