Do you think that having a contract government job in Canada can lead to permanent?

Canada or Australia?? Which one would be best for us?

  • I'm a Youth Worker ( well project leader almost 8 years in current job ) when I looked youth work in Canada the pay is only one third of what I'm on here plus the work seems more direct involvement as my current job entails designing programmes supervising and evaluating liaising with relevent authorities overseeing project work etc ... I checked out the government website and I can't seem to find what this job desc would come under in Canada.... Anyway on top of that I think I don't qualify to Immigrate to Canada because my job def doesn't come under skilled workers that Canada needs... My South African Husband is in his final year in uni studying BSC Environmental Science. He has 2 years experience as A environ technician and a Lab tech. We are both fed up of the Irish weather and have done a bit of research to see that both Canada and Australia seem to have excellent healthcare, education and standard of living. However other factors have to be considered as we have children ( toddlers at the mo )Ireland has a very good and most importantly FREE education system including University . If we stayed here we would be financially better off ( we're currently living on my income and fine at present) but I don't want my children to grow up being mainly confined in the house becuase it's always raining When I think Of Australia I think of going outside and playing with my children or going for walks and climbing trees or just knowing that if we want to go outside we can. However in terms of education( I know neither Canada nor Australia have free 3rd level ) , quality of life. We know that Canada has very cold winters but to us if it had a summer that is somewhat dry and warm (20 celsius) we'd settle for that. Both our occupations are on skilled list for Australia and the job desc is more on a par with what I do but it's very far away from the rest of the world and we want to be realistic and put much thought and time into where is best for us and our children. We currenty live in a 3 bed townhouse I bought a few years ago it's in an estate and is getting rougher by the months plus it's got no where for our children to play except a water logged back garden but in order to move into a better location( away from estates into the country) we would have to pay 300000 euro for a house (app 483000aus$) (474000 CAN $)We don't intend to move for at least 2-3 yrs because we want to have savings before we go ..... Any advice would be greatly appreciated

  • Answer:

although tertiary education in Australia is not free there is a scheme where the govt pays for the course while it is being undertaken and then you repay the loan (interest free) out of your taxes after you start earning a certain amount once you have graduated. depending on where in Australia you choose (if indeed Australia is your choice) the summer temperatures are 30+ celsius (often up to 40) and in some places also very humid (20 degrees is middle of the day in winter over here) We also have great beaches and outdoor lifestyle perfect for children as long as you remember sunscreen and hats. good luck with your decision.
